December 01 Elusive Images in Stock Photography: Ocean, Water, Life As humans, our strongest emotional responses - both positive and negative - come from visual cues. That's precisely why the old adage, "A picture is worth a thousand words," has more than a ring of truth to it. When you're flipping through a magazine or surfing the Web, the photos are what make you stop and look. Today, the images that are most effective in capturing the attention of readers and web visitors alike can be summed up in three words: ocean, water, life. Imagery is Everything Those who are in the business of advertising or web design understand that developing a wonderful product or a website full of useful information is important, but it's only one component of success. Choosing the proper imagery to communicate to the potential customer or visitor can result in resounding success, while selecting the wrong images can be disastrous in terms of sales and web "stickiness." Carefully selected images can help to establish and reinforce brand awareness, can help to target niche markets, and can help to build customer loyalty. Today, lifestyle photography is the primary means of conveying consumer messages -so much so that product photography is often a small element of a print advertising campaign or a web design. Lifestyle Photography Conveys Concepts The primary purpose of lifestyle photography is to convey concepts. For example, a photograph of waves lapping on the beach can convey relaxation, freedom, luxury, and promise. Photography of crashing waves can communicate agitation, strength, and persistence. Images of still water with stormy skies can convey turbulence, doubt, conflict, and confusion. A hand reaching out of the water can relay a message of hope or of hopelessness. Photography that depicts surfing can communicate youthful exuberance or a hip, active lifestyle. Finding Unique, Captivating Images If you use these types of ocean, water, and life images in your advertising campaigns or web design work, you know how frustrating it can be to find the right photography to communicate your key concepts. Most, if not all, major stock photography companies have either a limited number of images, or images that are dated. When you're looking for unique images that evoke the proper emotional tone, it often pays to patronize smaller stock photography companies, particularly those that specialize in ocean, water, and life images. The images that will allow you to stand apart from your competition may very well come from a company that is steeped in the surf and water lifestyle. Besides offering unique stock images, the right stock photography company should be able to offer you exclusive rights, should you so desire, should track the use of all photos, and should consider commission ideas. In other words, if you need a certain type of ocean, water, or life image, the company should consider shooting the image for you and then adding it to their stock catalog. With ocean, water, and life photography quickly becoming the most common images used in advertising and web design, it's important to find a stock photography company that can deliver the unique images that will give you the edge and set you apart from your competitors. Email Grammar Guide Just because email messages are sent quickly doesn’t mean they can be composed in a hurry. Sorry! You were hoping I’d say little pesky things like grammar aren’t important. But, they are. Here are a few grammar pointers to get you started on the right track for sending proper email messages. This isn’t an exhaustive list. Entire text books are devoted to grammar. But, these few tips will be helpful. Incorrect Modifiers Put modifiers in their proper place. Sure – as soon as I tell you what a modifier is, you can tell it where to go. Modifiers are adjectives and adverbs. Adjectives are used to modify nouns and pronouns. Adverbs are used to modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. One way to help remember this is that most adverbs end in the letters “ly.” Example - Using Modifiers Correctly The following example demonstrates how to use adjectives to modify a noun and how to use adverbs to modify a verb. When modifying a noun, use an adjective: • He did a poor job. • She is a frequent contributor. When modifying a verb, use an adverb: • He did the job poorly. • She contributes frequently. Noun/Pronoun Agreement Another common grammar problem is when the pronoun doesn’t agree in number with its antecedent. Or, in plain English, that means incorrectly using a plural pronoun to modify a singular noun, or vice versa. The most common offender is using the plural “they,” when the sentence really calls for the singular “he” or “she.” Example This will become clearer when you read the following example. The illustration also offers several options for rewording these statements in order to make them correct. Sample of Single Versus Plural Pronouns The following statement is incorrect. The noun and pronoun do not agree. “When a customer is upset, they need to vent.” Here are several ways to reword the statement to make it correct: • Rewrite it in the plural: “When customers are upset, they need to vent.” • Use he/she: “When a customer is upset, he/she needs to vent.” • Re-use the noun: “When a customer is upset, a customer needs to vent.” • Re-word the statement: “An upset customer needs to vent.” Recent Phenomenon This specific problem is a recent phenomenon. Long ago, “he” was the standard pronoun used to refer to both sexes. In current times, we have tried to be more politically correct. This leads to the he/she issue. Errors on this issue not only lead to poor grammar, but they may offend someone. Future Trend Now that you’ve had a quick history lesson, let’s look to the future. In a few years, it may be acceptable to use the plural pronoun “they” with a singular antecedent. However, those times haven’t arrived yet, despite what you may see to the contrary. So, don’t use plural pronouns with singular nouns until you receive the official memo from the Proper English Grammar Gurus. Grammar Surprises Here’s a final point about grammar. You may be surprised by who becomes upset if your messages aren’t grammatically correct. Your customer, colleague, or boss may use incorrect grammar all the time. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t recognize improper usage when they hear it or see it from others. In other words, they may be holding you to a higher standard. Make sure you measure up. Email Grammar Tips You may think there is no connection or relevance between constructing email messages with grammatically correct sentences and conducting the functions of a competent businessperson. However, your clients may disagree. In order for customers to buy your products or use your services, they must have confidence in your abilities. Using proper grammar is important to make a positive impression. The same can be said for internal correspondence within a corporation. Coworkers in other departments may not know anything about the work you do, but they may know English grammar. And, they may be quick to point out when you don’t use that English grammar properly. Since space prohibits a lengthy discussion on proper grammar, the following is a brief discussion of one common grammatical problem. Watch for these errors when composing your email messages. Fewer or Less Determining whether to use the word “fewer” or the word “less” can be tricky. Here are two techniques to help. 1. Quantifiable Method One technique is called the quantifiable method. Ask yourself if you can count the individual items (e.g., apples, paper clips, calculators) or if you can’t count the quantity (e.g., food, time, patience). • If you can count the items, use “fewer.” • If you can’t then count the items, use “less.” For example, you can count the number of email messages you receive. And, most people want FEWER messages! Why? Because they’d like to spend LESS time on email. 2. Much or Many Method Here is the second technique to help you determine whether to use the word “fewer” or the word “less.” This method is a little quirky. But, hey, “quirky” is more fun and that makes it easier to remember. If you can rephrase the sentence by using the word “much,” then you select the word “less.” On the other hand, if you can rephrase the sentence by using the word “many,” then you select the word “fewer.” • Many = “fewer.” • Much = “less.” Example The following example demonstrates how to determine when to use the word “fewer” and when to use the word “less.” This example illustrates both the quantifiable method and the quirky “much or many” method. Determining When to Use “Fewer” or “Less” Quantifiable Method: • If you can count the items, use “fewer.” For example: There are fewer than six cars in the parking lot. • If you cannot count the items, use “less.” For example: We had less gasoline in the car than we thought. Much or Many Method: • If you would use “many,” then use “fewer.” For example: She doesn’t have many students. Therefore, she has fewer students. • If you would use “much,” then use “less.” For example: I don’t have much time. Therefore, I have less time. Regardless of which method you use, be aware of the impression you’re making with your email messages. You’ll suffer LESS stress if you can retain MORE customers and staff by being professional. Email Marketing Software Leverages Limited Marketing Budgets In an era when giant retailers and mega-corporations are pouring millions of dollars into Internet marketing and advertising, owners of small- and medium-sized can become easily discouraged. With limited marketing budgets, can smaller businesses compete in the high-cost world of Internet marketing and advertising? The answer is a definitive "yes." Indeed, one of the best ways to leverage limited marketing budgets is to use email marketing, which can be used to streamline, organize, and enhance customer relationships and communications. Email marketing is the perfect vehicle for distributing a company newsletter, contacting potential clients, sending offers to existing customers, or simply keeping in touch with an audience about updates and changes to the business. At first glance, it may seem that email marketing is a good idea in theory, but difficult to execute in practice. Compiling and maintaining email lists, composing and keeping track of email messages and offers, and sending out the emails manually or using rudimentary email blast software is difficult and time-consuming. It's also a gamble, since so many blast emails are caught in spam filters and are never delivered to the recipients. The only way to truly get the message to the customer is through sophisticated email marketing software. Historically, email list management software has had limited features, was unreliable in terms of assuring delivery of emails, and has been cost prohibitive to all but the largest companies. The good news is that new products have entered the marketplace that not only overcome these limitations, but that also offer enhanced affordability. As a small or medium-sized business, shopping for email list management software can be tricky. Look for the following features: * Affordability - Email list management software should allow you to send up to 50,000 emails a month for under $100. There are even some email list management software systems that periodically offer introductory rates of $1 for the first month. * An intuitive, Web-based interface - Web-based software is the wave of the future; a Web-based email list management system means you never have to worry about software maintenance or upgrades. * Limitless email lists - You should be able to maintain as many addresses as you wish and as many lists as you want without incurring extra expense. Beware of companies that charge based on the number of database entries you have! * Rollover credits - If you don't use your allotted number of emails during a given month, a good email marketing package will allow you to roll unused credits over into the next month, or to purchase additional credits on the fly, in real time. * Importing lists - You should be able to import entire mailing lists into the online system with a few clicks of your mouse. You should also be able to rent or buy opt-in email lists and migrate them into the system. * Sequential mailings - The best email marketing software systems allow you to import a series of messages and set up sequential mailings to be sent at the day and time you desire. In other words, you should be able to implement a six-month email marketing campaign in one sitting. * Flexibility - Look for software that allows you to edit your lists and messages right up to the minute your mailing is scheduled to be sent. * Automated list management - Email marketing software should automatically handle bounced emails, bad addresses, and requests for removal. It should also allow you to remove any blacklisted addresses and build opt-in email lists. Great email marketing software can be the great equalizer, allowing small- and medium-sized businesses to compete with the corporate giants in the world of Internet marketing and advertising. Email Punctuation Pointers When sending email messages, it’s easy to get in a hurry. But, remember there’s a huge difference between dashing off a note to a friend and sending a message to a customer or colleague. When sending email in a professional environment, the message should be professional. And, that includes using proper punctuation. (Phooey! You were hoping I’d say you could break all the rules, weren’t you?) There is one area of email that gets a little foggy. This is the rule that deals with punctuation at the end of sentences (e.g., periods, question marks, exclamation points). In typed letters, there are two spaces after the punctuation at the end of the sentence. This originated from typewriters, which needed this space to create a distinct break between two sentences. Computers allot space proportionally. So, a break can be created with only one space. In emails, you will see two different formats. Some people will use only one space after punctuation that ends a sentence. They will also use only one space after colons. Other people still use the two spaces. Example Those who prefer one space consider those who use two spaces to be “old fashioned.” Those who prefer two spaces consider those who use one space to “not be conservative or professional enough.” The decision as to whether to use one space or two is entirely up to you. The only rule to follow is that you must be consistent. Either use one space throughout the message or two. Don’t mix and match. You want the message to appear as though you know the rules and made a conscious choice. You don’t want the message to look as though you have no idea what the rules are, so you just randomly added spacing. While you may be able to choose one space or two, you don’t get to make choices about other punctuation. All of the other old rules are still in effect. In case I’ve whetted your appetite for more information on punctuation rules, here is another tip. Fanboys When do you use a comma to separate two thoughts in a sentence, and when don’t you? The quick answer is “FANBOYS.” This is an acronym which stands for the words: • For • And • Nor • But • Or • Yet • So When any of these words connect two independent clauses, you need a comma. That’s nice. Now, what in the world is an “independent clause”? It’s a phrase that can stand alone. In other words, it has a subject and a verb. It can be a complete sentence all by itself. For example – The conference call has been cancelled, and it will be re-scheduled next week. A dependent clause cannot stand alone. It doesn’t contain both a subject and a verb. Therefore, it’s dependent on the rest of the sentence. You don’t use a comma to connect a dependent clause to an independent clause. To say it more simply, if one of the phrases cannot stand alone (doesn’t have a subject and a verb), then you don’t need a comma. For example – The conference call has been cancelled and will be re-scheduled next week. Whether you’re ending a sentence or checking for FANBOYS, take the time to punctuate properly. Your customers and colleagues will respect you for it. Email Spelling Quiz How good are your spelling skills? Please don’t say, “It doesn’t matter. I have spell checker!” Remember, the spell check function will only catch misspelled words. It won’t verify you’ve used the correct word. If you haven’t experienced an embarrassing situation where spell checker missed a mistake, I’m sure you have a friend who has. Spell checker is a great tool. But, since you can’t rely on it completely, let’s find out how well you can do on your own. Try this spelling quiz. Spelling Quiz Directions: In each statement, select the correctly spelled word from the choices given within the brackets [ ]. 1. The attorney filed a tax [lean, lien]. 2. The driver was going 95 miles per hour when he [passed, past] the police officer. 5. The server glared at the man as he made his fifth trip to the [dessert, desert] table. 6. A loan shark may lean on you for not paying a debt, or you could lean your ladder against a wall. As a noun, “lean” refers to meat that is low in fat — as in a skinny cow. 2. A lot is correct. It refers to an amount or quantity. There is no such word as alot. Allot means to distribute or assign, “I will allot $50 in the budget for new boxes.” 3. Already is correct. It means “previously.” All ready means completely ready. “She is all ready to go.” 4. Passed is correct. It is the past tense of pass. Past means something is over or no longer current. 5. Dessert is correct. If you add an “s” and read it backward, it spells “stressed.” As everyone knows, desserts can cure any stressful situation. As a verb, desert means to leave without permission, or to abandon. As a noun, the word desert is pronounced differently. The noun “desert” is a hot, dry place that is not well known for its sweet stuff, although you might go there if you desert your dessert. 6. Fourth is correct. Simply use the number four and add “th.” Forth means going forward. 7. Stationery is correct. Remember that the word “stationery” has the letters “er” in it, the same as the words “paper” and “letterhead” do. Stationary means not moving or fixed, as in a stationary bike. 8. Site is correct. Site is a noun. Site refers to the place where something is, or will be, located. Cite is a verb meaning to quote or to mention. Sight is the ability to see. 9. Complement is correct. Think of the “e” because the words in the definition also contain “e’s” -- that which completes or perfects. To use compliment, think of the “i” in the word, to say, “I want to give you praise.” 10. Affect is correct. This one is easy, once you remember that “affect” is always used as a verb meaning to influence. Usually, “effect” is a noun. If it is used as a verb, the word effect means to bring about, as in “to effect a change.” Score: 10 = You’re perfect. (But, you knew that already.) Keep emailing! 7 - 9 = You’re okay. Consumers are always in a hurry and have always wanted for a convenient access to the things they need. These kinds of vending machines are usually placed in airports, grocery stores and shopping malls. These vending machines also accept credit cards as payment for the product you want to buy. Vending machines are not created perfectly. There were some noted malfunctions like coin jam, coin blocking the detectors and products are not fully released. Vending machine manufacturers have seen these malfunctions and have further desired to make these machines better. In the last ten years, big improvements in the vending technology have been observed by the consumers making the machine a more effective way for fast and quick purchases. Telemetry is one of the latest vending innovations. Telemetry is the start of affordable wireless technology making cashless payments more authenticated. Most vending machines honor exact change only and according to surveys, 50 % of consumers is stopped from using the vending machines because of the exact change only policy. With telemetry, machines are enabled to make sales even if the consumer doesn’t have the exact change. This is done through the bill changer. With telemetry, it is also now possible to transmit inventory and sales data to an assigned truck parked nearby the machine. This gives the signal to the driver or a staff in charge to take products to the vending machine for restocking. One of the vending machines malfunctions noted is when the machine fails to release the products. In order to prevent this from happening, new vending machines especially those snack vending machines that sells light weight items such as chips and chocolates, are now installed with spirals that hold the items containing lasers. These are placed near the access door. The laser is designed to automatically detect the products that fall and when products are not detected after a specified time or minutes, the spiral automatically turns at maximum of three turns. If after three turns, the product fails to fall, the machine instructs the customer to either make another selection or refund his money. Vending machines are one of the useful products of technology. The ease and convenience it brings to the consumers is really one great wonder in world moving in a fast pace. If a person feels hungry or perhaps needs anything in the middle of the night, he doesn't need to wait until the morning to get it. All he needs to do is drop by one of the vending machines nearby and get what he wants. Employers view of your resume Before an employer agrees to an interview, they need to be convinced that you are a great candidate for the position. This is where your resume is an essential marketing tool. It demonstrates to an employer your skills, experience and writing ability. Make sure your spelling and grammar are impeccable. You should be creative, bold and humorous in your Cover Letter, but always be yourself. Nothing impresses an employer more than your knowledge of them or the company. Try and key in on something that will make your cover letter stand out; find some pertinent information about the company. Of course you only want to focus on the positive. Employers use the resume process to narrow their selection. They will choose the best of the best as perceived by what is in your resume. Your resume is your only initial sales tool to impress the employer enough to give you an interview. As the bad cliché goes – You can only make a first impression once. It's important that your resume be as strong and positive as possible. A poorly organized and haphazardly written resume demonstrates to the employer that you are not serious about yourself, and if you are not serious about yourself, you are probably not going to be an asset to the company. The questions that are going through the minds of employer are: • Can you solve problems? • What are your strengths / weaknesses? • What are the benefits of hiring you over someone else? • How will you fit into the company? • Will you have a strong commitment to your job? • How independent are you / can you be a team player? • Are you a fast learner? Don’t forget to do your homework about the company, its history, its goals, products, etc. You can apply this information and dramatically stand out with a creative cover letter! Find information about the company by reading the company’s website, brochures, do a Google search, and look at competitors. There’s tons of good information out there if you look. If you submit a boilerplate cover letter and boring resume, you find yourself at the bottom of the resume pile. Enhance Productivity and Safety for Your Business with Industrial Roll Up Doors If you own a warehouse, storage facility, or industrial business, you probably realize the importance of safety, productivity, and energy conservation. Old doors to divide your plant sections or warehouse storage areas can be a hazard in more ways than one. That's why it's a good idea to replace your old doors with new, energy-efficient roll up doors. Here are some benefits and key features of roll up doors. Easy to Use One issue that's often overlooked in manufacturing facilities is ease of use for the doors. Doors can be a hassle, especially those that swing outward or upward when opened. They must be held open or "held up" by some type of device or they could possibly fall or close suddenly on a worker or on your equipment. This can pose a threat to workers on the job every day without their realizing it. For instance, someone operating moving equipment such as a forklift could easily crash into an open door and get hurt or damage the products they are carrying. With commercial rollup doors, workers can easily and quickly open and close the doors for a fast entrance or exit. This helps to improve productivity and prevent door hazards. When you replace your doors with rollup doors, you can choose the method of opening and closing such as manual push-up, chain, or motor operated doors. Heavy-Duty for Protection Rollup doors come in heavy-duty materials for protection against burglary, weathering, and on-the-job accidents. The doors usually come in materials such as steel, wood, or concrete to provide safety and insulation against cold and heat. Many rollup doors provide protection against dust or contaminants in the air for food processing plants or chemical plants. If you live in an area where there are frequent hurricanes or high winds, there are rollup doors that can withstand high winds and heavy rains. Customized for Your Needs Industrial roll up doors can be customized to meet your needs. A rollup door specialist can measure your door openings and create rollup doors to fit perfectly with your building. They come in many colors that are bright and easily recognized by workers, day or night. Save Money with Commercial Roll Up Doors You can save money on energy costs by installing insulated rollup doors. These can keep cold air in and hot air out during the hot months, and vice versa during the winter months. Another way to save money is by reducing the number of safety hazards for workers. This helps reduce injuries on the job, workers compensation, and insurance premiums. Rollup doors provide a safe alternative to other types of doors or sectional barriers. Other Rollup Door Products Even if you don't manage a factory or warehouse, there are still many other uses for rollup doors. There are mini storage doors, roll garage doors, and self-storage doors to provide you with safe, convenient storage or garage doors. With rollup doors, you can make life easier for your workers and enjoy a safer, more productive environment at your plant or warehouse. Check out the rollup door advantages and features online to see how they can benefit you. Enhance Your Children's Fitness Business with Preschool Exercise Programs If you own a children's fitness business and want to add to your services, try offering a preschool exercise program in your local area. Preschool exercise programs are much needed, but too often, they get put on the back burner in schools, daycares, and other preschool organizations. Some may feel it's not that important that preschoolers exercise on a regular basis, but this couldn't be farther from the truth. Fitness is very important for preschoolers and it helps them establish good habits that can last a lifetime. Offer a Preschool P.E. Many older children participate in some sort of P.E. (physical education) class at school, but many preschoolers don't. P.E. is a class offered at a set time for about an hour a day when kids exercise and play sports such as softball, basketball, and dodge ball. With a preschool P.E., you can schedule to come to the preschool class at a set time each day to teach the children age-appropriate exercises and other fun, active stuff to get in shape. Some of the preschool fitness activities you can offer in your classes include aerobic exercises, fun dances, gymnastics, and age-appropriate sports. You can also incorporate nutrition information and provide take-home items such hand-outs, newsletters for parents, take-home coloring sheets, DVDs, music CDs, and other items to enhance the preschool exercise classes. If you're unable to instruct the classes yourself, you can approach preschools about starting their own program. Your children's fitness business can provide the supplies and training they need. The curriculum you provide will teach the instructors how to help preschool children learn about fitness and nutrition, stay in shape for the long term, and improve self-esteem. The Benefits of Preschool Fitness Preschool fitness offers many benefits for children, parents, and teachers. The children in the program learn the importance of exercise in a fun, exciting way, and they learn how to warm up, cool down, and stretch their muscles for more flexibility. Preschool exercise promotes cardiovascular health at a young age and helps children develop good exercise and eating habits that will stay with them for a lifetime. Preschool fitness programs can reach into the children's homes to help parents combat childhood obesity at home. Teachers involved in the program may see an improvement in class moral, and more energy and clearer minds in their preschoolers, which can result in a better teaching and learning environment. Getting Started with a Preschool Fitness Program Whether your children's fitness business is located in a storefront or you travel to different schools or homes, you can easily incorporate a preschool fitness program with your current offerings. There are many great franchises dedicated to helping you start your own program. These will provide the curriculum and other items needed to teach the classes. In a storefront setting, you can set up displays for local teachers to sign up as preschool fitness instructors. Or, you can visit local preschool establishments to ask about starting a program. Use online resources to find a kid's fitness program franchise that will work well with your business. Look for a program that offers a variety of exercise techniques and materials so the kids won't become bored with the program. Preschoolers have a short attention span so the more new techniques you can offer, the more effective it will be. A preschool exercise program can enhance your children's fitness business in more ways than one. It enables you to bring a positive influence to local daycares and schools while helping many impressionable preschool kids learn to get in shape and stay healthy! Enjoy Direct Daily Payments for Years to Come with these Business Ideas If you plan to start an online business, there are many options to consider. There are Internet businesses where products are sold from a warehouse or an inventory storage building. There are online businesses that sell information only. There are also online businesses that sell services, but not tangible products. The list of opportunities goes on and on. But which one will bring in direct daily payments to you? Let's explore some home business ideas to see which will be right for you. What are Direct Daily Payments? Direct daily payments are payments that come directly to your bank account, PayPal account, or wherever else you might receive payments. The payments come from the customers directly to you instead of through another company's payroll. You will be your own boss and control the money. Realistically with any business, you are not likely to start receiving direct "daily" payments when you first start the business. But with some opportunities, the payments might come rolling in more quickly than you think. Internet Home Business Offering Tangible Products An Internet home business that offers tangible products usually involves stocking inventory and shipping products to the customers. You can sell any type of product, from golf supplies to gift baskets to auto parts. The benefits are you can build a business based on your personal interests and build it to a successful -and even very large- operation over time. You can still receive daily money for products once the business is established. If you don't want the hassle of offering your own products, you can sign on as an affiliate to sell products for others. With affiliate programs, you'll earn a commission every time you refer a new customer when they make a purchase. Affiliate programs can be lucrative, but they also take a while to build. Research carefully before relying on affiliate programs to be sure the companies are stable for long-term earnings. Service-Oriented Home Business A service-oriented home business enables you to get paid daily, weekly, or monthly for a service. The service can be anything - writing, web design, web hosting, accounting, transcription, data entry, marketing, and so forth. With a service business, you're paid according to your time and skills, and you don't have to keep any inventory on hand. Turn Key Internet Home Businesses A home business that is already set up for you with a website, customer service, and products or services to offer is called a turnkey home business. This type of business usually requires a minimal investment on your part to set up, but you'll be responsible for promoting the business. Some opportunities will even promote for you, but may require a larger initial investment. A turnkey business allows you to start an Internet home business without all the typical costs involved with startup. You can sign on with a company and reap the benefits of their product or service, their promotional efforts, and training. They do all the legwork for you so it's much easier to get started. Some turnkey businesses do offer products or services or digital products such as e-books while others may be similar to an MLM program. They teach you how to market their business so you can make money daily in a shorter period of time. To start receiving daily money with a healthy residual income, study these types of online businesses to see which one will fit your time schedule, start-up budget, skills, and interests. If you need a steady income now, choose a home business opportunity with the most potential for earning direct daily payments in the near future. Enjoy The Benefits Of A Credit Merchant Account A credit merchant account can make your business more productive than ever. That’s because a merchant account will let you start accepting credit card payments from customers in any part of the world at any time of the day or night. Could business possibly be better than that when conducted in any other way? That is why you need to know more about potential benefits of a merchant account. Your credit merchant account will let you grow your business in ways you may not have imagined. For example, in addition to taking credit card payments on location at your store, you can take a wireless credit card processor with you to customers’ residences or places of business and accept payment on the spot. This makes it easier for the customer to pay the charges and not give another thought to the transaction. You, on the other hand, likewise benefit when the bill is paid promptly without the hassle of waiting for payments that may never arrive. You can hire few billing clerks and accounts receivable employees when you accept credit transactions that are processed instantly. Another way that a credit merchant account can serve your business is when you implement a phone order and payment system. A digital program will let customers call a toll-free number, listen to messages about products and services or select other options, such as “payment” or “catalog request,” and then finish up by processing a credit card for any purchases made during the phone call. You don’t even have to hire someone to answer the phone; the entire process can be automated, although you may want to have a customer service rep available at certain hours of the day if needed. The credit merchant account benefit that is creating quite a buzz in the business world is the Internet credit card processing option. More companies are putting up a Website in cyberspace to get their names out there and to attract a larger, more global client base. You can enjoy these benefits, too, when you get approved for a credit merchant account and hire a Web designer to create an artistic or thoughtful Website that represents your business to customers around the world. Registering with search engines will bring thousands of visitors to your site by accident, but they may decide to remain when they find exciting features on your home page, such as a survey, a helpful hint, or links to product lists and descriptions. They can shop in any time zone or region in any continent from a computer with Internet access. Think of the possibilities for building a super-size client base! Give some thought to applying for a merchant credit account from a trusted lender or underwriter. This special account will confer professional merchant status and allow you to collect credit payments in a timely manner instead of working through a time-consuming billing process that may render less fruitful results. Shop soon to compare prices and terms for your credit merchant account. Enjoy Wealth from Home with a Turn Key, Automated Home Based Business If you're ready to leave the 9-to-5 job scene and start your own business from home, there's one way to do this with little expense or effort. Instead of starting from scratch, you can join with a company that offers a turn key, automated home based business. MLM programs online offer many added benefits, even when compared with off-line MLM opportunities. Let's explore these benefits and how they can help you earn a lucrative residual income from home. The Joys of an Automated System The main benefit of having a turn key online business is automation. An automated system means everything is set in motion to sell before the customers ever arrive at your website. Customer service is automated with follow-up emails, phone answering services, and sign-up forms. Payments are automated through online processing. Even many of the products or services received are automated so you won't have to worry about these factors while running your business. A turn key, automated home based business gives you the opportunity to meet and invite new people to join without traditional network marketing methods. You don't have to recruit at the local supermarket or while dining out. You don't have to hold meetings in a local hotel conference room or go door-to-door looking for new customers. With a turn key website, your promotional efforts will be mainly online or through email. You can do it all from home! Reduce Risks with a Turn Key Automated System Another major advantage of a turn key, automated home based business is you don't have to risk your time and money on something that hasn't yet been tested. Imagine starting an online crafts store. You work hard to design your website, invest in promotions, stock craft-related inventory, set up order processing, and install a customer service phone line. Then after about a year, you discover the business is just not going to work out. It's not bringing enough profit to carry on. You've just wasted a year's time (and money) on something that doesn't work. With a turn key business, the testing period is usually over even before you get started. Someone else has gone before you to see what works and what sells. From the Web presentation to the closing of the sale, the entire pathway to success has already been explored. All you have to do is get on the right pathway and start promoting. Many business opportunities do require a start-up investment, but this if often minimal when compared to normal business start-up costs. You may risk a small amount of money, but you can work hard to promote and earn that money back plus a healthy residual income without future risk. Once you get started making sales and find out what works, you can do it again and again. Many MLM companies will also provide you with a plan of promotion that has already been tested, which is an added bonus. Looking to the Future The potential of a turn key, automated home based business is amazing. Once you find a few advertising methods that bring a good response rate, you can roll out larger campaigns for more sales. You'll have a team of experts to help you sell the product, so all you'll have to worry about is finding effective ways to get new people to your website. You can make money from home while leveraging the skills of others. And, of course, those who work to help you will receive benefits from every sale. It's a win-win opportunity. Also, you'll have the flexibility to work on your business any time of the day. The Internet is not limited to certain hours, so you can start promotions early in the morning or late in the evening. You'd be surprised at the number of people surfing the Web during wee hours of the night looking for a home business opportunity. With a turn key, automated home based business, you'll be able to enjoy wealth from home without the many headaches of starting your own business. Start realizing your home business dreams today! Enter The Matrix – Pie In The Sky Or Digital Sweat Shop One of the most commonly used buzz terms in the home business niche is ‘matrix plan’. It has a nice ring to it I’ll admit. Promoters often use this phrase to suggest a stable, well formulated income stream. But in reality this type of opportunity scam is anything but lucrative for the majority of participants. Before I continue, I want to point out that almost all matrix programs fall under the FTC’s classification of pyramid schemes and ponzi scams. They’re illegal systems that allow a few con artists to fleece the gullible masses. Having said this, I want to focus not on the legal ramifications, but on the sheer logistics involved in a matrix program. In a nutshell, a matrix format requires you to invest money into a perceived business opportunity, and then recruit new investors to the opportunity in an effort to recover your investments and earn profit. Typically you receive only a very small commission from each new referral, and therefore need to gather a large number of recruits in order to achieve a decent income. Here’s a quick example of how a common matrix structure might work: You pay $295 to participate in a home business opportunity (red flag number one, by the way). You then must recruit three other people to fill your first matrix level. Each of these new referrals might earn you a $20 commission. Each of these new recruits will then need to refer three people to their first level. Those individuals who are recruited by your first level will be on your second level. You might earn a $10 commission from each of your second level referrals. Of course, these second level participants will each be required to refer three new people in order to complete their first level. And these new people who are recruited by your second level will be, you guessed it, your third level referrals. You might be compensated $5 for each third level member in your referral network. Confused yet? Great. That’s just what the people who dreamed up this kind of system had in mind when they rolled it out. In the above example, which is very typical of matrix structures, you would have earned $295 in commissions. That would be enough for you to break even, and anything else gained from your participation would be profit. Doesn’t sound too bad, right? Let’s take a closer look. In order for you to recover your original investment of $295, nearly forty other people have to invest the same amount of money into this alleged business opportunity. So you either: a) have to help your referrals convince 39 people to lay out almost 300 bucks to participate in an obvious pyramid scheme, or b) have to sit back helplessly and rely on these referrals to make it happen on their own. In either scenario, you have little control. Your breaking even depends entirely on whether or not 39 other human beings are willing to spend $295 within your downline structure. And this gets better. Most matrix programs will only pay commissions on a full level. So if you only have 26 people on your third level instead of the required 27, you don’t get a dime. But not to worry. The program owners still get paid. In fact that’s what this whole thing is about in the first place. The people that devise these repugnant matrix structures know full well the majority of their members will fail to recruit the number of people required to achieve payout. So what we have is hundreds, maybe thousands of people investing their money and time into a losing situation. A few participants might profit, but most will not. The founders of the program, of course, stand to make millions from this structure. Opinions vary, but I don’t see any reason to work my butt off for nothing. Especially if my efforts are paying huge dividends to someone else. Entertainment Sources It is the digital revolution era. Almost every electronic component is digitalized. Though more expensive, digital equipment is preferred, because the quality is superior. When investing in digital equipment, an important factor to consider is the nature of the entertainment center that will accommodate them. A digital entertainment center houses all the digital equipment in one unit. It allows users to access their music, movies, home videos and photos from a single device via a remote control. Users can purchase a digital entertainment center that doubles as a media center for their TV or projector and have access to all the media functions at one place. Any device such as a DVI, component video, VGA, S-Video or composite video can be used to make this connection. With a digital entertainment center, it is possible to perform a number of operations from a single device. A user can pause, replay and record any TV program from cable, digital cable, digital satellite or over-the-air TV with the help of a personal video recorder, and transfer photos from a camera. Some entertainment centers allow a person to perform various functions simultaneously. For instance, it is possible to simultaneously watch TV or a video in one room and play music in another. It is also possible to record a favorite program and write them on DVDs. The best part about digital entertainment centers is that they allow a user to perform so many different tasks at once. The quality of its media output is also enhanced. As they are not bulky and do not occupy as much space as the traditional entertainment centers, it is possible to merge them into the décor of a home irrespective of its size. Televisions come in a variety of sizes ranging from the corner stand TVs to the complete range of home theater systems. While finding a place to store a normal size TV proves no problem, finding space for your big screen entertainment center may require some elaborate planning. For setting up a big screen entertainment center, you need to first make a list of components and equipment that will be needed. A typical list of components will include the TV, VCR, laser disc player or DVD player, stereo system, and console-based game station. Given the varied assortment of the components involved and their sizes, big screen entertainment centers take up a lot of space in any room – living or bedroom. That means they need to be aligned to any one wall in a room. Apart from the electronic equipment, these big screen solutions also have provisions for books and a computer. This means that these centers can fulfill the relaxation and recreational needs of several people at once and therefore, these entertainment centers become the converging point for entire family. The position of a big screen entertainment center also determines the setting of the entire room. An entertainment center aligned to a wall can become the anchor of the entire room, around which the rest of the furniture such as the sofa, is arranged. The entertainment center and the rest of the furniture of the room should blend aesthetically with the décor and color scheme of the room. In fact, a host of contemporary and traditional designs allow for the TV, DVD player, PC and other peripheral components to blend gracefully together with each other as also with the décor of the rest of the room. All said, television is only one of the many elements of a big screen entertainment center. In addition, you can also place your PC in the entertainment center and use it to download music or video. Yet the TV continues to rule supreme as the biggest home entertainment provider. To get the complete theater sound effect, you can connect surround-sound speaker systems. The sound of these systems varies depending on where you place them. Entity Structuring Entity structuring is the use of limited partnerships, limited liabilities, and corporations. These can help you accomplish three things: 1. Bullet-proofing your assets so that the bad guys are worse of if they try and take them away from you. 2. Slashing your taxes so that they are within single digits. 3. Protecting your privacy and building lasting wealth. Let me explain how this works with the following example: A case study: My friend Patrick grew up with the family business. His family sold expensive boats. His business grew. He was a financially intelligent man so he wanted to add a stream of income. Therefore, he decided to start a Marina, a land storage facility, a parts shop and a show room. I wanted to make sure he was properly protected and that he had bullet-proofed his assets. However, he was too busy making money to focus on it at that time. This was his fatal flaw. One day, I got that dreaded call from Patrick. The sheriff deputy was there to shut down his businesses: the Marina, the parts shop, the storage facility, and the show room. His business was locked down with pad locks in a matter of hours. Within six months, he lost all of his personal assets and filed both personal and corporate bankruptcy. The tragedy here is beyond his loses but the fact that this situation was completely avoidable. You can prevent this from happening to your business by using two power tools: 1. Limited Partnerships: separate legal entities. They separate your personal assets from business investments. 2. Limited Liability: similar to Limited Partnerships as they form a wall between you and the creditors and predators. These two power tools include a built-in charging order that does not apply to your typical “S” or “C” corporations. A charging order basically states that the “bad guys” can not go after your assets. They will be able to go after income but not after you employ the following strategy. We can set up a separate management company for you. Then, you can shift your money from your LLC or LP into your separate management company. The last step in your protection is called imputing income, and it finalizes the prevention of lawsuits. The IRS can step in and tax these bad guys for the money they are suing for (even when they are unable to collect this money.) This ensures the fact that suing you will not be worth the effort. In summary: They can not touch your assets because you have protected them. They can not receive the income because you have shifted it out. They are left with heavy taxes imposed by the IRS. Therefore, the likelihood of you being sued is next to nothing. November 29 Texas Holdem Tournament - Learn How To Run A Texas Hold'em Tournament Texas Hold’em is a popular game, so next time you consider hosting a social function at your house why not host a Texas Hold’em tournament? If that’s not your thing, the following rules and information will help you better understand the way a Texas Hold’em tournament is run. Blinds: Every Texas Hold’em tournament has a blinds structure. In a game, there are big blinds and small blinds, which are posted by the players to the left of the dealer button. There can also be another forced bet every player must post called the ante, which adds more action to the game. For instance, if the small blind is $5 and the big blind is $10 and the ante is $3, in a five player game there is already $30 in the pot at the start of a hand. Limits: In Hold’em tournaments, even the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour, the limits increase as the game progresses. There are two things to decide in a tournament: how much the limits will be and how much they will increase. To determine the limits, make a chart that show the limits – the big blind, small blind and ante – at the beginning and at the first increase, second increase, third increase and son. The increments at which the limit increases can be either regulated by time or the number of hands. Chips: You will also need to decide how many chips each person will receive and what they will represent. No one likes losing early on, so make the amount of chips fairly high in relation to the initial limit. If your first big blind is 15, then a good number of chips to start with is $1000. Even if the buy-in is only $5, the chips can represent a lot more. Rebuys or Addons: Rebuys are when you can purchase your buy-in again after you have run out of chips. This is usually only an available option near the beginning of a tournament for a limited period of time. A typical rebuy period could be within the first three limits and normally players can only rebuy one time. Addons are the same thing, but you don’t have to be busted to get one. Multi Tables: If you’re going to have more than ten people, it is a good idea to have more than one table. Normally no limit hold’em is played with nine players and a dealer. This need not be the case at home. The dealer button and dealing responsibilities rotate and you likely won’t have a perfect number of people. Try and even out the number of people at each table, but don’t predetermine where everyone will sit; that is unfair. Use chance. Prize money: Decide on a payout structure for the player who wins. Usually the more entrants, the lower the payouts go down the ranks so that even if you finish 20th you walk away with something. If you have ten people, it is a good idea just to pay out the top winner or as many as the top three. If you have 20 people playing, pay out to the top five. The top winner should get the most and then the following winners should get less incrementally. Losing is boring: Don’t let your losing guests get bored. Plan to start up a side game to keep people entertained. The buy-in doesn’t matter and just give them a certain number of chips per dollar amount to play with. Texas Holdem Odds - Playing The Odds With Texas Hold’emWith the enormous popularity of Texas Hold’em, people around the world are thirsty for new information about this exciting game. They want to win and they want to know how to win. Read on to find out some interesting ways of understanding the odds of Texas Hold’em. Probability is one of the most important things to understand when you are playing hold’em. If you know the odds, you can make more informed decisions when it comes time to put the chips on the table. Players use odds to determine such things as the chances of getting a straight or a flush and the number of times a flop will match the pocket pair. This understanding becomes increasingly important for players who play Online, when “tells” are virtually non-existent. These players require some kind of basis for forming decisions when choosing when to bet, call or fold. If you’re new to poker, here are some terms you may want to know: Outs: The cards left in the deck that can improve your hand. Pot odds: The odds resulting from comparing the current size of the pot to the next call. Bet odds: The odds you get as a result of evaluating the number of callers to a raise. Implied odds: The odds you are getting after the assumed result of betting for the remainder of the hand. With Texas Hold’em, you are most likely to use outs and pot odds. To determine the outs, simply divide the number of outs by the number of cards left unseen and the result will be the percentage chance of making one of those outs. To determine pot odds, compare your outs to the size of the pot. If your chance of winning is better than the ratio of the pot size to a bet, then you have good pot odds. If it’s lower, then you have bad pot odds. One area of odds people have difficulty accepting is the stake they have already made in the pot on the table. That money is no longer theirs. It’s a pool of money to be given to the winner. You have no stake in that pot and therefore it has no statistical bearing. Understanding bet odds and implied odds is more difficult because you must predict the reactions of other players, an essential skill to playing good Texas Hold’em. With bet odds, try and factor in how many people are going to call a raise. With implied odds, try and think about reactions for the rest of the game. While these concepts seem complex and mathematical, if you think about them when you play, the concept will come to you. And, the best part is, that this little bit of effort will have a big effect on your win rate when playing poker of all kinds. When you play the odds, odds are you’ll win and have fun doing it, too. |
